The general approach to plagiarism and academic integrity at NorQuest College is more educational and skills-based in nature. It is important to recognize that students have many different levels of experience and knowledge regarding research; as such, the priority is that they learn the skills to complete research tasks that align with their assignment guidelines and instructor expectations. Additionally, many of these types of software have glaring privacy issues and are dishonest and unethical in the ways that they use information.

If you need to contact the library staff from home, there are multiple options available for you to connect including via chat, text, or email.

The NorQuest APA Course is another helpful resource for you to complete at your own pace. Completing all four modules can be done within an hour and give you foundational knowledge about using APA style citation.

You can find and purchase your textbooks from The Core (the NorQuest College bookstore).

You may also borrow a copy of your textbook from the NorQuest Library. Textbooks are only available for 3-hour loans. Please ask at the Library desk for current textbooks.

You can also request a small portion of a textbook (e.g. one chapter) through the Library's interlibrary loans and document delivery service: Request an interlibrary loan.

Tip: Your barcode number can be found on your NorQuest student ID card! 

As a NorQuest student or staff, you can:

• Check out materials from the NorQuest Library's physical collection. Most NorQuest items are loaned for 3 weeks.
  • Please note: Reserve textbooks are available for 3-hour loans and Curriculum materials are for faculty use only. 
  • To request an item, follow the instructions in the Library Search user guide: Place a hold on an item
     
• Access thousands of ebooks, videos, and articles directly through our Library Search
   
• Place an interlibrary loan request for books, book chapters, or article requests from other libraries. More information about our Interlibrary loan services can be found on the Library Basics guide: Request an interlibrary loan

"Reserve" items are popular or heavily-used Library resources, including required textbooks and technology. 

• Textbooks can be borrowed for up to 3 hours
• Most technology, including headphones, phone chargers, laptop chargers, and calculators, can be borrowed for 3 hours
• Laptops can be borrowed for 3 days. There is more information about the Library laptops here: Technology Loaning at the Library

If you would like to borrow a reserve item, please ask at the Library desk.

We will be able to help you quickly if you have the following information handy: Title of the textbook OR Course Name & Number.

Textbooks can also be purchased from The Core (Bookstore).

If you have lost or damaged a library item, you may be charged the replacement cost of the item. Please contact library@norquest.ca to discuss your options.

Yes!

If you live outside the Greater Edmonton Area, you may request items from the NorQuest Library to be mailed to you. Items will be shipped via Canada Post with a return label included. This service is provided at no cost to you.

However, Reserve materials are not available for distance loans. If you are in need of a textbook, they can be purchased online through The Core (NorQuest's bookstore). You can also use our interlibrary loans and document delivery services to request a single chapter of a book: Request an Interlibrary Loan

Yes! NorQuest students, faculty, and staff can borrow materials from other libraries in the following ways:

Option 1: Request through NorQuest Library

Place a request using NorQuest Library’s interlibrary loan service.

The item will be shipped to NorQuest and can be picked up at the Library.

You will return this item to NorQuest Library.

Option 2: Register for an L-Pass from EPL

If you do not already have an Edmonton Public Library (EPL) card, you can register for one using your NorQuest student ID. Follow the instructions on the Library Basics guide to register for an L-Pass.

Your L-Pass expires every year on August 31st . If you are renewing your L-Pass account, you can sign up again for the next year starting August 1.

Option 3: The Alberta Library Card

Many libraries in Alberta are members of The Alberta Library (TAL). This membership allows Alberta library users to go to other libraries in Alberta, have an account created with those libraries, and to borrow materials from those libraries. To get started, ask at the NorQuest Library desk for a TAL card. 

NorQuest College's subscription to the Hoopla database expired on May 9th, 2025. Access to this resource is discontinued.

You can return them to either of the two book drop boxes at NorQuest College.
These are located:

• inside the Learner Centre at the Library help desk,
• outside the Learner Centre entrance.

If you need help with research, citation, or references visit the library help desk in the Learner Centre, or contact the library by e-mail (library@norquest.ca), phone (780-644-6070), text (587-600-0084), chat, or book an online or in-person appointment with a librarian.

If you require help for anything else related to your assignment, contact Tutorial Services.

There are several options for embedded library support in misiwe pehtâkwan courses, including:

• Library Resources Block
• Customized Library Block with specific resources
• Liaison Librarian Contact Information
• A research/citation forum hosted by a librarian
• Embedded library tutorials and activities
• Online APA course (option: connect to gradebook to verify completion)

You can also connect with your Library Liasion who can answer any questions you may have.

NorQuest Library welcomes suggestions from students, staff and faculty. Please submit your suggestions using the Suggest a Resource form.

In order to check when your books are due or to renew them, visit the Library website homepage and select My Library Account.

Click Sign in to your account: 

If you are student or employee of NorQuest College, sign in using NorQuest Students/Employees. You will use your NorQuest email address and password to login.

If you are a community member and you have registered for a library account with NorQuest College, you will sign in using Community Members. You will use your personal email address and the password you set when registering for your account.

Once you are logged into your library account, you will be able to see your loans, requests, fines, messages and personal details. On the overview screen, you will be able to view your checkouts and due dates, and you will have the ability to renew all items on your account.

If you only want to renew one of your loans, click on Loans for more details. You will be able to renew a single item from this screen.

We recommend contacting the Student Resolution & Integrity Office (SRIO; formerly the Office for Student Judicial Affairs) if you need guidance, advice, and information related to allegations of academic misconduct or non-academic misconduct.

• The Student Resolution & Integrity Office (SRIO; formerly the Office for Student Judicial Affairs) runs an Academic Integrity Course that can be added to courses in misiwe pehtâkwan. 
• Librarians can address plagiarism and offering paraphrasing guidance during an instruction session.
